Of The Commitment

After the talk with my parents, I went to church since it was a Sunday. It was the best way to pass time as I was already bored in the house on this lovely morning. I think part of me also wanted to thank God for the engagement that had happened yesterday. The church was already packed up when I arrived but found a seat at the back. As the service went on, I could not help but glance a few times at the shiny ring on my left hand. I smiled as I kept trying to get back to the services every time that happened.

I passed by Fred's place after and still found him under blankets. He was watching a movie on his laptop. I updated him on how the conversation with my parents went regarding the proposal. He seemed happy as he got to know on how happy they were with the whole thing. He hadn't yet told his parents but wanted to call them later.

I started preparing lunch for us two of us as I was already feeling hungry. Fred on the other hand went to have a shower and got dressed. Within twenty minutes, we were seated and having lunch while watching a comedy.

"Since we are already passed the first hurdle, when do you think we should have our wedding?" Fred asked while taking a bite.

"Huh?" I asked shocked.

"I know sooner or later we have to talk about the subject."

"I really had not thought about that." I said while staring blankly at the wall. "Your parents don't even know that we are engaged."

"I wanted us to plan a trip together so that we go and tell them in person."

"When?"

"When we figure out the details such as when we will have our wedding."

"Okay. It's just that the word wedding sounds like a big commitment." I said.

"It is."

"I had never thought about a white wedding before."

"Really?" Fred asked. "I thought all chicks sleep and dream about that."

"Not me."

First Steps

"Hi mum." I said on the phone.

"Hi Catherine. Is everything okay?" Mum asked. She always assumes something is wrong when I call her very early in the morning.

"Yes mum. Everything is okay. Was just checking up on you." I said.

"Catherine, don't lie to me." She insisted.

"Okay mom. I have some news to tell you. It's kind of big."

"Okay, I'm listening."

"Remember the guy I told you that I was dating?" I asked.

"Yes. Has he hurt you?"

"No mum. He has proposed."

"What?" She asked surprised almost screaming. "Did I hear that correctly?"

"Yea."

"Oh my God. What did you say?"

"I said yes mum."

The following minutes were like a form of interrogation on if I was ready for the whole 'fiancee' issue. Mum still thinks I was still her little baby and obviously has fears on me taking the big bold steps. Dad later called me as he had gone to attend some issues and asked me on the same. He was really happy for me. He didn't even ask any questions just saying that if i was happy with Fred then he didn't have a problem with it.
